14 May 1948 – David Ben Gurion declares the State of Israel’s independence.
May 1948 – July 1949 – Israel defends its independence from six invading Arab armies.
1949 – Israel concludes armistice agreements with Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. UN votes in favor of internationalizing Jerusalem. Ben Gurion declares Jerusalem the capital of Israel. Jerusalem divided under Israeli and Jordanian Rule.
1950 – Beginning of Jewish immigration to Israel from Arab countries. King Abdullah of Jordan formally annexes the West Bank.
20 July 1951 – King Abdullah was assassinated in Jerusalem at Friday prayers.
October – November 1956 – The Suez War (Sinai Campaign).
March 1957 – Israeli withdrawl from Sinai.
1964 – Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) founded.
June 1967 – Six-Day War.
1969 – 1970 – The War of Attrition.
1972 – Black September Organization seizes Israeli athletes at Munich Olympics – Nine Israelis killed in airport shoot-out.
